“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31
“How are you? How was your day?”
Once in a week, I jump on a call with some friends and have Bible studies with them. We share our testimonies for the week and our struggles; circumstances where we used God-given wisdom and areas where we were foolish, and then admonish one another from the Word of God. I praise God for that spiritual family.
During one of our sessions, Tee asked Foo directly, “How are you?” (those are not their real names) and Foo started a conversation on why we should ask for one another’s wellbeing with some other (deep) question. In his opinion, “How are you?” usually has a default answer “Fine” already. That discussion took a while and when Tee decided to ask for my wellbeing, she asked, “How was your day?”. Before I even thought about the question, my reply (like days before then) was “Omoo!” (my way of saying my day wasn’t very good and it was a lot). Then it hit me – why was my day not good?
What about it was not good?
Why was that my default answer?
Then something else struck my mind: “GOD HAS NEVER HAD A BAD DAY!”
HAVE A PURPOSE

In a bid to effectively assess each day, whether good or not so good, I decided to glean from Genesis 1’s creation account
“For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
Isaiah 45:18 NKJV
““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””
Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV
Purpose is the reason for which something exists, is done, or is made; it is the aim, intention, or goal behind an action.
God created the earth to be inhabited. He put in place forces, elements in the right proportion and positioning for the wellbeing of humans and other creatures dwelling on earth. For example, our sun is in the right distance not to fry us and yet close enough to do some good. God also created humans for a purpose. An example is Jeremiah who was ordained from the womb to be God’s prophet.
What is your purpose? When there is an overarching purpose, it becomes easier to break tasks down to smaller bits.
God wanted the earth to be inhabited. He created the sun, moon and stars to give light, to help with determining time (night or day) and for differentiating seasons (months using the moon and years using the sun). It’s like building a house and deciding to do some wiring. However, God’s lighting is more than just wiring.
“Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;”
Genesis 1:14 NKJV
Our God given purpose is to glorify Him, to make disciples for Him and there are various ways to get this done.
By dwelling on His Word, impressions of the Holy Spirit and doors of providence God opens, I have been able to see God’s purpose for me. Just as God broke down His creation tasks to 6 working days, so I too should plan each day ahead. What do I need to do on Sunday to be closer to achieving that purpose? How about plans for Monday?
God is willing to bless with earthly success, but what is the point of a good career, a thriving business and a good time on earth if all the tasks God has for me are neglected? I remember Daniel (and his friends) who prioritized God’s will above all else and alongside were excellent in earthly matters too.
Task 1: Have Plans 😃
HOW SHOULD I ACCOMPLISH?

Four (out of possibly many) ways I have seen God go about His tasks are:
- Excellently
- Timely
- Ignoring Distractions
- Unfazed when other parties disrupt the plans
1
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”
Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV
God never does a sloppy job and He expects the same from us, whom He has made in His image.
Father God, please help me go about each day excellently.
2
“For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.”
Genesis 21:2 NKJV
“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,”
John 17:1 NKJV
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,”
Galatians 4:4 NKJV
For all of God’s plans, He had set time for them; through prophecy and history, it’s so clear that God achieved His plans at the exact time He allotted to get them done. God is always on time. God told Abraham He would have a son in a year and in exactly one year, Abraham did.
Through Scripture, we see that God promised the exact time the Messiah would be born, the time He got baptized, time He would die, the time He would resurrect and all of these came to pass at their appointed time.
“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”
Daniel 9:25-27 KJV
Consider also that we are to have set times for activities.
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: ”
Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV
Father, please help me to be a good steward of time. May I glorify you in my use of time. Help me to arrive early or on time to appointments.
3
“Then one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
But He said to him, “Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?””
Luke 12:13-14 NKJV
Jesus refused to be distracted by matters that do not concern Him. Today, a major distraction is social media. It is good to be informed on some matters happening in the world. Sometimes this can serve as source of education or enlightenment but it can also kill time and degrade the mind.
In this age of constant distraction, where boredom is the enemy and instant gratification and instant dopamine hits are the norm, consider the following:
We must turn away from a thousand topics that invite attention. There are matters that consume time and arouse inquiry, but end in nothing. The highest interests demand the close attention and energy that are so often given to comparatively insignificant things. The Ministry of Healing by Ellen G White Page 456.1
My prayer – God help me to avoid distraction; help me to remove myself from matters that do not concern me so I can face what really matters.
4
What if I make a plan and then someone else disrupts the plans; or maybe I cause the disruption myself whether mistakenly or knowingly? Well, God made new plans when humans made decisions that required a change of plans.
God planned to destroy Nineveh, but they repented of their evil ways – plans changed
“Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.”
Jonah 3:10 NKJV
God planned to bless Israel continually, but they chose to be stiff-necked and unrepentant and got the consequences of their infidelity instead.
“Thus they were defiled by their own works, And played the harlot by their own deeds. Many times He delivered them; But they rebelled in their counsel, And were brought low for their iniquity.”
Psalms 106:39, 43 NKJV
Father, when circumstances or people cause a need to restrategize and change plans, help us to be reassured that you are with us always, able to save and to direct.
ASSESSMENT

“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31 NKJV
“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
Genesis 6:5 NKJV
We waste resources when we don’t evaluate or track them. From the first day of creation, God examined the light and saw that it was good. Each day, God kept checking and evaluating.
When humans increased, God re-evaluated and saw that the earth had become cancerous with sin. God saw that the cancer had to be dealt with.
My prayer – Our Father in heaven, please if we are in ventures, associations or circumstances that draw us away from You or our purpose; help us to evaluate rightly that we may see the urgent need to be separated from such. If you have shut the door of providence on a matter that we are so insistent on, please help us to know your will and to submit to it, Lord.
Six evenings and mornings passed by and then God rested, not because God gets tired but that He was done.
There is a joy that comes with planning something and getting it done. There is a peace that comes from knowing that the day may not have gone exactly as planned but that one glorified God. The night’s sleep becomes sweet. Even at the end of the week, God calls us to take a deep breath, assess the past week and rest in His providence.
Our God has never had a bad day; He is able to help us be like Him; and when we have bad days, there is the Comforter to uphold and strengthen us for the days ahead.
Will you surrender each day to God and let Him guide you?
